9 Easy Ways to Keep Your Shoes Smelling Fresh
This is funny, but you can give it a try.
Have you ever walked into a room and taken your shoes off and it smells like a rat died in the room? No it’s no dead rat, that’s your shoe. The smell of stinky shoes can be overwhelming and make you want to throw them away, but you can deal with it. Here are a number of easy ways to remove and prevent that terrible odour from your shoes. more after the cut.....
Wear Socks: There may be times when you are tempted not to wear socks because it makes you feel hot, but this is the best thing that you can do to help get rid of shoe odour. Just don’t wear the same socks consecutively.
Feet Washing: There is a need for the feet to be clean in order to help get rid of potential bacteria. When the bacteria reproduces, the smell become stronger and more pungent.
Sun Dry Shoes: Take out the laces and lift the tongue up and out to dry the shoes out faster. By keeping them dry, you help prevent bacterial growth that causes odour.
Freeze Shoes: Put shoes in a plastic bag, and then put them in the freezer over the night. Thaw them naturally the next day in the sunlight for the best results.
Place fresh orange, grapefruit, lemon, or lime peel into the shoes: Fresh citrus peel has a great smell because of its essential oils. Leave fresh citrus peel in your shoes overnight and remove them before using. They should smell a lot better.
Add a few drops of lavender oil to your shoes: One or two drops will suffice inside each shoe, on the sole. This will both add anti-bacterial properties and eliminate the odor, replacing it with a fresh fragrance.
Dryer Sheets
If in case you know that you would need to use your shoes for a long period of time and you are a bit anxious about removing your shoes in a public place, you can always make use of dryer sheets. These sheets can be placed on the shoes while the shoes are worn.
Use Teabags: Don’t throw your teabags away after use! Wash them up under running tap water, dry them up and stuff a few into the toe area of the shoe and put them up at least overnight. Black teabags contain tannins which are very effective in killing bacteria that can be found inside the shoe.
Baby Powder: Yes, baby powder. It keeps the feet deodorized and smells good especially when it is worn. It will be best to avoid baby powder with scents that are too strong because this might aggravate the shoe odour. Just sprinkle a light dusting of baby powder inside all of your shoes and leave overnight. In the morning, just shake out the baby powder or you can even leave it in for really bad odours. It will continue to absorb moisture and kill those stubborn bacteria, leaving your shoes smelling fresher.
