Despite early reports to the contrary, an EgyptAir official now says debris from flight MS804 has not yet been found. USA TODAY....
Egyptian and Greek authorities said Friday that wreckage from EgyptAir Flight 804, including luggage, airline seats and body parts, had been found 180 miles off the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria one day after the plane disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean Sea.
The Airbus A320, carrying 66 people from Paris to Cairo, went down Thursday morning shortly after entering Egyptian air space.
The plane disappeared from radar about 175 miles from Egypt's coastline after making a sudden 90-degree turn to the left and then doing a full, 360-degree spin to the right, according to Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos.
Egyptian army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammed Samir said in a statement posted on his Facebook page that Egyptian planes and navy vessels found “personal belongings of the passengers and parts of the plane debris.” He said a recovery process was under way.
Kammenos, the defense minister, said the Egyptian navy found debris, two airlines seats as well as body parts. The Egyptian military said it was sweeping the area for the plane's black box recorders.
Egyptian officials said three French and three British investigators and an Airbus expert arrived in Cairo to help investigate the crash, the Associated Press reported.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, although Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi said earlier that there is a higher possibility of a terror attack than a technical malfunction.
